Ancestors in my feet...
Periwinkle on my tongue
Choreolab 2025
In 1844, 114 enslaved people were forced to trek by foot, from Stagville to Alabama. How do we challenge historical silences embedded in public spaces? And as we are also concerned with moving beyond historical recovery to connect personal memory with broader historical absences--erased stories of the fullness and potential of life for enslaved, Stagville laborers—we hope to illuminate how love, joy , family, belonging, identifying your people, are also a part of the historical narrative that may lead to a reinscription of forgotten stories into the landscape of memory.
